Ann Rodgers on Benedict XVI

Benedict XVI less conservative, more pastoral than expected

Since when were "conservative" and "pastoral" antonyms? St. Pius X was vehemently hated for being doctrinaire, but even his enemies conceded that he was an exemplary shepherd of souls.

The Athanasian Creed said, "If one does not hold to the Catholic Faith whole and entire, he shall without doubt perish eternally." It seems to me the first duty of a good shepherd to insist on doctrinal orthodoxy - with compassion, of course, but also with urgency.

  2. I agree, and I think Pope Benedict XVI will continue to do that: be a good shepherd who speaks the truth plainly and with compassion.

I hope so, Lynn. Keeping in mind that the Church is both Divine and human like Her Founder, Her human element is a mess. I'll believe things are changing when I see it. I know by faith that things WILL change, but when and how is a mystery. It may very well have to get a lot worse before it gets better. I have a feeling that the vision of the Third Secret of Fatima is not in the past.
