2016 Feast of the Annunciation and Good Friday

This year...

From Feast of the Annunciation (Lady Day):

"When Lady Day falls on Good Friday, it is transferred to the Monday following Low Sunday (the Sunday after Easter). Folk belief is that it is a bad sign when Lady Day falls on Good Friday; bad luck is said to follow. The English say, 'If Our Lord falls in Our Lady's lap, England will meet with a great mishap.' "

  1. Not always so! In the Churches which use the Byzantine rite, the Annunciation is indeed celebrated on Good Friday. Tomorrow night, the usual Vespers of Burial is combined with Divine Liturgy, as both feasts are observed; a very rare occurence.

It will be the first time I have received Holy Communion on Good Friday in 51 years!

    God be with you all.

  2. And pardon me for posting twice, but I forgot to mention that I also think this dual celebration is a great point for meditation: without the Incarnation, there would be no life-giving offering on the Cross. The beginning of Christ's earthly life, and His death are encompassed on this day.
